Shepherd's Hut - Chassis, Wheels and Floor
The all-metal chassis is fabricated in our workshop and has 32" cast iron wheels on the rear axle and 24" on the front axle. Each wheel has a grease nipple enabling the axles to be lubricated which makes for easier moving and turning. A large 700mm full bearing turntable is located between the front axle and cross member. The attractive forged drawbar with a twisted loop is removable and can also be used on the rear axle which gives more flexibility when moving and siting the hut.
The metalwork is treated with red oxide before being painted with a durable machinery enamel paint in the colour of your choice.
With the chassis assembled, the 4" by 2" douglas fir floor joists are fitted onto the chassis, insulation is added, followed by the 1" thick floorboards to provide a very strong base ready to take the hut structure.
